Clusters & Geodes
Crystal clusters, geodes and cathedrals, from mini clusters for the counter to statement pieces.
Clusters, geodes and cathedrals
A cluster is a group of crystals that grew together on a shared base. A geode is a hollow rock lined with crystals inside. A cathedral is a tall geode, usually amethyst, stood upright so the crystal-lined hollow faces you. All three show crystals in their natural form, which is why they are often the most photographed pieces in a shop.

Choosing clusters
Look at the crystal points (complete tips are worth more), the colour and the base. A flat or cut base stands well; a rough base may need a stand.
Care
Lift clusters by the base, never by the crystals. Dust them with a soft brush or a camera air blower, and keep amethyst out of strong afternoon sun.
Clusters & Geodes FAQ
What is the difference between a cluster and a geode?
A cluster is a group of crystals on a shared base. A geode is a hollow rock with crystals lining the inside; pieces broken from a geode are often sold as clusters.
Will a cluster stand on its own?
Many have a flat or cut base. Clusters with a rough base may need a stand; the photos show the base.
How do I clean a cluster?
Dust it with a soft brush or blow the dust off. Quartz clusters can be rinsed and dried carefully; soft minerals should not be washed.
