The 3 Biggest Takeaways from Tucson Gem Show 2025

The 3 Biggest Takeaways from Tucson Gem Show 2025

What’s trending, what’s new, and what every seller needs to know from this year’s show.

Tucson sets the tone for the crystal market every year, and 2025 was no different. From new trends to shifting buying patterns, here’s what we learned, and what it means for your shop.

Green Stones & Carvings Took Over

This year’s theme, “Shades of Green” wasn’t just for show it reflected a growing demand for green minerals. Malachite, peridot, green tourmaline, and even more obscure stones like chrome diopside were everywhere.

At the same time, carvings exploded! Not just your standard animals and skulls, but a wave of political and meme-inspired pieces. The fact that online trends are now shaping the carving market says a lot about where the industry is headed.

If you don’t already stock a variety of green stones, now’s the time to add them to your collection. And if you sell carvings, it might be time to start watching internet trends more closely!

But...not every idea needs to be a crystal carving! 👀😂

2. A Quieter Show & More Cautious Buying

One of the biggest surprises this year? Tucson felt quieter.

At the end of our shopping, a warehouse worker mentioned that the space is usually packed with skids from buyers at the show - this year, there were hardly any. it seems like many are playing it safe, sticking to what they know will sell.

But there were still great finds for those looking in the right places. one standout? affordable, small Naica selenite pieces. we saw a lot of them in the market and picked up a bunch ourselves

With fewer people taking risks on new stones, demand for unique inventory could rise. Bringing in something different while others play it safe might give your shop the edge and attract customers looking for what they can’t find elsewhere.

We know a lot of you are about to lose your minds over this one… and honestly, we did too!

3. New Minerals & The Fake Crystal That Exploded

Wernerite from Québec gained traction this year - this longtime mineral saw more attention than usual, making it one to watch.

On the fake crystal side, the biggest offender this year was pink potassium alum octahedral crystals. Lab-grown formations that fooled more buyers than expected. They also come in purple, mimicking fluorite, making them even easier to mistake for the real thing.

What to look for: extremely bright pink or purple octahedral formations being marketed as rare.
reality: this is a synthetic material, so if you see it being sold as natural, question it.

If customers ask, be upfront, transparency builds trust, and informed buyers come back.

Authenticity Matters More Than Ever

With more synthetics and enhancements appearing, customers are asking more questions about what’s real. Shops that clearly label natural vs. enhanced vs. lab-grown will build stronger trust and stronger sales.

We’ve been in the industry for 25+ years and source directly from trusted miners and suppliers. That means you don’t need to question authenticity!
