The iridescent nacre that lines the inside of the shell varies in color from silvery white, with brown splashes around the surface.
Clams can be found in fresh or saltwater. The shells are usually short and wide. They can have stripes or colors that can range from black to brown to white. With some, the rings on the shells show the clam’s age.
