Mica

Mica

More Info

Mica is a group of minerals that share some common physical and chemical characteristics but have different chemical formulae. The mica group includes many different minerals such as biotite, muscovite, phlogopite, and lepidolite.

Most micas are monoclinic, which means that their crystals have one unique axis of symmetry. Micas have a characteristic flaky or platy habit, which is due to their layered structure. They are composed of sheets of silica tetrahedra, which are bonded to sheets of metal cations. These sheets can slide past each other easily, making micas easy to split into thin sheets or flakes.

Physical Properties

Mica is a group of minerals that share common characteristics but have different chemical formulas. They are found worldwide in a variety of geological settings, such as metamorphic and igneous rocks. Micas have a range of colours depending on the impurities present, and they typically appear as books or flaky masses with rhombic or hexagonal outlines.

Micas have a hardness ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 on the Mohs scale, which makes them relatively soft minerals. However, their perfect cleavage and flaky habit make them useful in a variety of applications such as electronic equipment, furnace linings and even cosmetics.

Metaphysical Properties

Mica is believed to help individuals reflect on their own qualities and recognize their flaws without self-condemnation, which allows them to effectively address negative personality traits. Mica is also said to reduce hostile or nervous energy according to metaphysical beliefs.

It is most closely associated with the zodiac signs Aquarius and Virgo, but it is not a traditional birthstone. Some believe that mica is connected to the heart chakra, while others associate it with different chakras depending on the pigment of the stone.
